The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (Unicef) and Lingap Pangkabataan, Incorporated (LPI) sign a memorandum of partnership agreement to implement part of a Unicef Country Programme for the Republic of the Philippines.
The project entitled “Establishing and Strengthening Pre-school-Kinder-Primary Education Link in Teduray Communities” is signed last August 27 by the representatives of both agencies. Representing LPI is Mr. Norman Franklin C. Agustin and Ms. Nancy C. Nicolas, Executive Director and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees respectively; and Ms. Lotta Sylwander, Country Representative of Unicef.
The said project will run for one year to be implemented in 10 sitios in three (3) barangays in the Municipalities of Upi, South Upi, and Datu Blah Sinsuat all in the Province of Maguindanao.
Among the objectives of the project is to establish a pre-school and kindergarten classes that will implement a contextualized curriculum in target Teduray communities. It is also geared at strengthening the capabilities of parents, communities and local government units to support and sustain the provision of pre-school, kinder and elementary education services in the said Indigenous Peoples communities.
This project is in close coordination and in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), St. Francis Parish of the Episcopal Diocese of Southern Philippines (EDSP), and the Office of the Deputy Governor for Indigenous People of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM).
