This March, let’s take a moment to celebrate the incredible women of Gawang Kamay in ESCOPA 3 here in Quezon City. Started in 2017 as a group of concerned parents working to protect children in their communities against abuse and exploitation, Gawang Kamay has grown into a powerful force for good in their community.
Through their reusable bag-making, the printing of t-shirts and other souvenir items, and reusable face mask productions, they have been able to provide extra income to women in their barangay while sustaining their child-focused community development programs. And with the guidance of their university partners from Ateneo de Manila and De La Salle College of St. Benilde, they have sustained their programs.
Gawang Kamay is now recognized by the Quezon City Government and is the Peoples Organization representative to Quezon City’s Gender and Development Council where Gawang Kamay helps amplify calls for women’s economic empowerment.
